My photography journey and eventually my photography gallery.
A quick intro.
That doesn’t quite look like me! Well, maybe at one time. No, never in fact.
Anyway, I began my working life as a trainee photographer back in the 1970’s, I had worked for a couple of London photographers, and a wedding photography business in Wimbledon, Surrey by the start of the 80’s. But I found a new opportunity to share my skills and knowledge, packaging for food products.
I learned a lot in just a few short years, back when photography meant film, chemicals, enlargers, darkrooms, and everything was analogue.
Cameras

Full Frame Camera
So, the first camera I used was full frame wall bellows mounted copy camera which came with dust. Artwork would come in from the graphic design studio and be photographed. Art work for many news and magazine advertisements would simply be a a collection of photos, cut and pasted on to a white board. So each element was a layer, in exactly the same way someone might use a photo editing application.
It wasn’t all that archaic we also used a Hasselblad 500 series. A medium size camera which was an iconic line of medium-format cameras renowned for their modular design, exceptional image quality, and robust build. Introduced in 1957 with the Hasselblad 500C, these cameras quickly became favourites among professional photographers, especially in studio and fashion photography.
Colour Blind.
Let me let you in on a secret: I’m colour blind. No, it’s not funny, okay? But I’ll quickly add that despite being colour blind, I became very good at my job. In fact, one company even told me I was the “best colour printer they had ever employed.” Still, the work was a bit monotonous—mostly being stuck in dark rooms with chemicals, which often left me coughing and spluttering, especially in the warmer months. You seem when I worked with negatives I was working in reverse, yellow, magenta, cyan, and for that I had exceptional colour vision, my photos were vibrant and bright, that’s why I received praise.
Love photography.
I still love photography but again, being colour blind is a bit of blessing and an obstacle, a blessing because I love Black and White photography, and taking pictures with an old analogue 35mm Camera. If I had the space I would develop my own prints, so I need a darkroom space.
Nikon Cameras to KP and McVities.
Just in case you’re wondering what happened to my photography career. You know, I don’t know, somewhere along the line I ended up working for Nikon Cameras in a production facility in west London, from where I moved to McVities for the packaging role. Even designing biscuit packets.
I worked for McVities for another 13 years, discovering a lot about manufacturing, and a some point in a IT project role. Which led me into another IT project role. It turns out I had more talent.
If you want to know what happened after that then off you pop to the about me page.
