My Journey

who builds a website image

Projects I’m working on : Domains, Website Builders and Design Tools.

This is a rather personal post in that it’s content is a list of sites I am working on or links to sites that I am interested in working with or learning from, while not necessarily being content they may be of interest to a visitor it may still be worth reading.

This website layout is exactly what I prosed for myself after much thought, the layout and subject matter are taking me down the path I was looking build on.

I will be talking about web development, CMS applications, sharing Travel Photography, looking at Life Style and taking you to interesting content and videos.

Before I continue, should you be looking for a hosting service then I must mention Hostinger.

Hostinger is a service provider I would recommend to people looking for a hosting service provider that stands out in the crowd. Take a look at Hostinger by clicking on the image or read more here in this post HOSTINGER POST.

The personal log.

Links in respect of my current activities.

I have a lot of things happening at once. With my objective being to provide useful content to visitors I have to maintain control over the structure of the site, the use of headings, and the format of the content. For SEO transition words are important but while I have to consider that requirement in my content it’s not always important. Action: Review Transition words in content.

These are sites and applications I visit often.

Backlink concerns.

Bear this in mind. And take action as specified. Taking care of free loaders.

Some plugins can contain hidden backlinks, especially free plugins from unofficial sources or shady developers.

Here’s what to know:

🔍 1. Why they do it:

  • To boost their own SEO using your site’s domain authority.
  • To generate traffic or backlinks for affiliate schemes or private networks.

⚠️ 2. How to spot it:

  • Check the plugin’s footer or source code (view page source).
  • Use browser DevTools (Inspect → Ctrl+F for href or suspicious links).
  • Run a plugin check using tools like:

🧹 3. How to avoid them:

  • Only install from the official WordPress plugin repository.
  • Avoid plugins from sketchy sites or “nulled” (cracked) plugin sources.
  • Read user reviews and check recent updates.

✅ Bonus Tip:

A plugin like WP Crontrol can help you monitor scheduled tasks and detect if anything strange is happening in the background.

What to do….

Great! Let’s check for hidden or unwanted backlinks in your WordPress setup. Here’s a step-by-step to get us started:

🔍 Step 1: Install a Plugin Scanner

You’ll need a security or plugin inspector tool to help scan for backlinks or suspicious code. Here are two solid free options:

🛡️ 1. Wordfence Security

  • Go to Plugins > Add New
  • Search for Wordfence
  • Install and activate it
  • Go to Wordfence > Scan
  • Run a full scan — it will flag any known bad links, malware, or suspicious code.

🧪 2. String Locator

  • This lets you search your entire WordPress theme, plugins, or core files for specific strings like URLs or suspicious anchor tags.
  • Install String Locator plugin
  • Once activated, go to Tools > String Locator
  • Search for keywords like: href= backlink sponsor rel="nofollow" Or even specific domains (like .xyz, .info, or plugin author names).

🔍 Step 2: Manually Check Installed Plugins

Sometimes plugin developers embed backlinks in:

  • The footer of your site
  • Within readme.txt or admin pages
  • Hidden inside HTML comments

To check:

  • Go to Appearance > Editor or use FTP access.
  • Look at your active theme’s footer.php, header.php, and functions.php files.
  • Open your browser’s Inspector on your live site and look for any external links you don’t recognize.

💡 Bonus Tip: Use an Online Site Scanner

You can also check for backlinks from outside:

These help identify outbound links from your domain and where they go.
